What is Seafood Watch?

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch® program helps consumers and businesses choose seafood that's fished or farmed in ways that support a healthy ocean, now and for future generations. Our recommendations indicate which seafood items are Best Choices or Good Alternatives, and which ones you should Avoid.

Raising Awareness

Since 1999, we've worked to raise public awareness about sustainable seafood issues.

  • Over 57 million consumer guides have been distributed worldwide.
  • More than 200 zoos, aquariums and nonprofit partners help promote sustainable seafood.

Educating Influencers

We educate chefs and culinary professionals who influence their customers and build demand for Best Choices from the seafood suppliers and producers with whom they work.
