Feathered Friends

Free with Aquarium admission

Get to know some amazing birds at the Monterey Bay Aquarium's "Feathered Friends" event each November. The weekend of activities highlights animals with beaks, wings and feathers—including the Aquarium's blackfooted penguinsAnimal Guide, Laysan albatross and shorebirds from our aviary.

Special shows and activities include:

  • Meet the penguin: Watch one of our blackfooted penguins walk down the red carpet and meet our penguinologists, who'll answer questions about these cool birds. One lucky guest will get the chance to touch the star of the show.
  • Meet Makana: Meet our rare Laysan albatross, Makana, and learn about Pacific seabirds and how you can help them.
  • Daily feeding: Learn about the shorebirds in the Aquarium's aviary during a daily feeding, where you'll have a chance to toss mealworms to these local birds.
  • Murre feeding During this aquatic feeding, you'll meet the captivating common murre—a black-and-white bird often mistaken for a penguin.
  • Family craft room: Create a unique keepsake with your kids.
